Smoke from wildfires can occur in very localized areas, fluctuate rapidly and may not be detected by AQHI stations. Take actions to protect your health based on your surroundings or symptoms. Additional information can be found on the federal public alerts page.
Disclaimer
Data available on this website are automatically polled every hour from monitoring stations operated by Environment and Protected Areas and Airshed Organizations and are intended for public awareness. The data, reported in near real-time, have not been subjected to the complete set of quality assurance and quality control procedures and should be considered "raw data."
Data integrity and validity may be impacted by potential issues such as instrument malfunctions or power outages. Data confirmed to be invalid could be deleted by Environment and Protected Areas after consultation with data providers.
This site provides raw ambient air quality data for the preceding 365 days. Air quality parameters are provided by individual monitoring station, while the Air Quality Health Index is reported by community (multiple stations within a community are averaged).

Pilot Project
Environment and Protected Areas is piloting the use of air quality sensors to compliment Alberta's air quality monitoring network. Data from air quality sensors are being used to report the AQHI alongside traditional permanent or portable monitoring station data, offering a broader view of Alberta's air quality.
Data from sensors are differentiated by a distinct symbol (diamond) and are indicated as "Sensor" in station/community names.
Sensor-based AQHI reporting may exhibit variations in concentrations and AQHI values during this pilot phase as sensor quality assurance procedures are refined. Air quality sensors provide different accuracy and precision than data from traditional stations. The AQHI value reported by sensors may differ from that of a traditional station by a value of 1, or value of 2 in rare instances. The disclaimer above applies to sensor data as well, as data are reported in real-time and have not undergone validation.
